The Third Annual Santa Clara County Children's Summit will bring together community leaders to forge new partnerships, work across boundries in order to achieve the goal of the Children's Agenda: Every child safe, healthy, successful in learninig, successful in life.

Summit Chairmen:
The Honorable Leonard Edwards, former Presiding Judge, Santa Clara County Juvenile Dependency Court. 
Dr. Fernando Mendoza, Chief, Division of General Pediatrics, Stanford University School of Medicine.

 

Program:
The exciting program will include keynote speaker, Pulitzer Prize Winner, Jose Antonio Vargas.

Our Breakout Workgroups will feature Santa Clara County models of organizations working together across boundaries to improving results for children.

The Bold Steps for Children Award will be presented to a local philanthropist and to a community partnership that has achieved results for children.

Children's Bill of Rights: The Children's Summit will also dedicate a portion of the program to the introduction and signing of the Children’s Bill of Rights.

High School Journalists Invitation: The Children’s Summit will also be inviting high school journalists to attend the conference in order to learn about the issues facing children in their community and participate in a journalism contest to write about these issues.  They will also have an opportunity to attend a special session with our keynote speaker to discuss how to utilize social media to “get the story”, framing stories that deal with social issues and making a career as a journalist today.

Keynote Speaker:
Pulitzer Prize Winner, Jose Antonio Vargas

A  proud alumnus of Mountain View High School  and San Francisco State University ,  Jose Antonio Vargas is the Technology and Innovations editor of the Huffington Post. Previously, he was a national political reporter for the Washington Post, where he broke new ground with his in-depth coverage of the Internet's impact on politics. He also wrote about video game culture and race and demographics, among other topics, and his 2006 series on HIV/AIDS in Washington inspired a feature-length documentary, The Other City, slated for release next year. In 2008, he won a Pulitzer Prize as part of a team that covered the Virginia Tech massacre.   A newspaper reporter for 11 years, he's also written for the Philadelphia Daily News and the San Francisco Chronicle, and has appeared on CNN, MSNBC and The NewsHour with Jim Lehrer.
